Kindergarden Oelsnitz/Erzgeb.
The new Schillerstrasse daycare center is a direct design development of the Christian kindergarten on Grenzstrasse that our office built in 2005. Essential design elements - the centrally symmetrical system and the curved corridor walls used to create space and orientation - were retained and moderately developed further for the new construction task of a daycare center.
The curve of the two walls, which open into the entrance portal on Schillerstrasse, creates two group room units inside, each consisting of two group and bedroom rooms, a multi-purpose room and a laundry room as well as a spacious inscribed terrace facing the garden.
The spatial concept is robust and flexible, so that parts or all of the building can later be used as a kindergarten. With this in mind, two of the group rooms can be connected with a flexible wall. With small “crawling boxes” that are given to each group room, places of retreat and a little highlight are created for the children.
The garden can be reached via a short path opposite the main entrance through the central cloakroom. The motif of curved shapes is taken up in garden design through easily usable play areas.
The sunny yellow building, clad in HPL panels, is structured by deliberately placed window frames in white and red, which are made from aluminum composite moldings.
The resource- and energy-saving timber frame construction is particularly characterized by its building biology aspects, which are supported by the clay-plastered, curved solid walls. When selecting the materials used, particular emphasis was placed on a variety of haptic perception stimuli.
